Stockholm Football Association

The Stockholm Football Association’s geographical area of activity encompasses 22 of Stockholm County’s 26 municipalities. The municipalities that are not included are Norrtälje, Nykvarn, Sigtuna and Södertälje. The urban areas Kungsängen and Bro are included in Upplands-Bro Municipality. Clubs Frösunda SK, GoIF Kåre and Markim Orkesta IS are not included in Vallentuna Municipality. In the City of Stockholm, there are 14 boroughs which are all searchable on fotbollsyta.nu under the municipality Stockholm.

Stockholmers love football. Football accounts for 50 per cent of all sporting activities that take place daily among the six largest sports. 5000 teams playing over 33,000 matches per season participate in the Stockholm Football Association’s children and youth tournament, the S:t Eriks-Cupen. 25 per cent are girls’ teams, which makes football by far the largest sport for girls in Stockholm.  With over 80,000 football players every week, we feel profoundly responsible for contributing expertise and competence, so that Stockholm can be developed into an attractive and sustainable city for everyone to live in.

Need for more football pitches

In the City of Stockholm, there is a lack of areas for playing football corresponding to approx. 27 full-sized 11-a-side pitches. This number has remained relatively constant over the years as new pitches which are built are quickly filled with children and youth who want to play football. In order to remedy this large deficit, the Stockholm Football Association is conducting a dialogue with both the Idrottsnämnd (sports advisory council) and Idrottsförvaltning (sports management and administration). One of the most important issues is to form a consensus on what the need for football areas actually looks like, so that Stockholm’s political leadership has a sound basis on which they can make decisions.

In other parts of Stockholm’s football district, the situation looks better, but here too there are many municipalities lacking space for playing football in relation to demand. Nacka, Huddinge and Solna are three municipalities where significant deficiencies are evident.
